Interview with an EQN Guild Part 4: Vita Nova

vn-beta2

Here it come again, time to chit chat with another multi-gaming guild.
This time we have Ballin Stormhammer leader of the guild answer the question about EQN&LM.
Some might say Landmark is just a playground before getting into Everquest Next but this guild will show you how much they are in love with LM!

Q1: EQN hasn’t been released yet, what is the reason that you recruit guild member for guild?

Our goal in recruiting for the game is simple. We like what we see in the potential for EQN and we want to make sure that on day one we have a network of players who can help assist each other as we begin to explore the game together. Also we don’t just play one game we are a group that plays, EQ2, H1Z1, and Landmark so it make sense to support each other in the next Generation MMO.

Q2: We all know that SOE has been sold off and became Gamebreaks, besides the developer of EQ series has been laid off. What do you think about it? Will this affect the game?

I do not like the fact that developers have been laid off. I do wish that we knew more about what was going on in the behind scenes. However, we are unsure how this event will affect the game. It could be good or it could be bad. Time will tell us one way or the other. As a community of players however we will survive because we are not built on one game.

Q3: Many of your guild members are a fan of EQ series, do you want EQN to maintain their old style or you want it to be totally different from the franchise?

This is a yes and no question. I do see a need to change things because if you do not your simply playing the same old game. However, we like to see roots maintained or it can’t really be seen as EverQuest based. A good Hybrid of that idea makes sense. Styles have to adapt and change for the times and for the influx of new players. With it being fresh and new it sparks interest. If we as a community wanted to play EverQuest I or II we simply go play it.

Q4: What is the main highlight of EQN in your opinion?

EQN greatest highlight is the promise of an emergent AI. The fact that the world and areas can change and mobs can change location is amazing. The idea of players effecting outcomes in the world makes the world seem more real and makes you emerged into the content. In other words if your efforts affect things then you have a sense of contribution or investment into the world and this helps spark more dedication and loyalty to the game. Also it keeps the world fresh and new. One of the hardest things about MMO’s is zones and areas become dead or boring because it is the same old thing. No matter what anyone does they are the same. Even making an alt is boring because you have been there done that and got the T-shirt.

Q5: As Devs said that they are using Landmark field experiment for EQN, what do you say about this?

It really is genius to bring in players through a game to help build another game. Where some oppose this cause they say it is basically crowd sourcing I would have to say we like the idea. Let’s face it as gamers we are always wanting better more advanced games with more content and to have that feel of reality yet fantasy together. With this comes a need for high amounts of content. No company or group of programmers can keep up and make a profit. I don’t expect companies to make games for free. However with the players helping it allows the game to easily go to a new level of game play and keeps the cost of production in a range that can be managed. It is a win for everyone. The players get a better game and the developers can eat and make a living.

Q6: Are you interested in Landmark? (if your guild members are playing Landmark, give us a reason)

We are playing Landmark, The reason for this is because we wanted to help contribute in the building and development of EQN and any other game Landmark will assist in. We love that it allows creativity to flow. Also this helps us prepare for EQN as we get hands on experience on the systems. Many of the things in Landmark are a shadow or example of things that will be in EQN so as an EQN guild it makes sense for us to get our hands on it as early as possible.

Q7: Do you want to see LM’s features appear in EQN?

It is not really a matter of wither I do or not, we know it will be even if it is simply partial or basics. It makes sense to use it as a foundation because of how much it can change and be personalized. I like the idea and I know not every LM feature will be in EQN and I’m okay with that because LM is not going to end any time soon.

Q8: Let’s talk about the content we know so far, what class will you personally pick for your first character and why?

Personally I’m leaning cleric, everyone knows there will be need for support classes or some form of healer. I like how they are trying to balance it though where you can still do DPS. I chose Cleric in EQ1 and it simply just a roots thing. I will most likely play alts in other classes if the AI proves to keep the game fresh.

Q9: Do you want to see each race has their own racial abilities? (if yes) will it destroy the balance?

Yes I would love to see this. No I don’t think it will destroy the balance if it is implemented right. To me however it makes sense. It adds to the life of consequences and I think EQN should hold true to that value that your decisions will matter.

Q10: How about PvP in Next? Many MMOs players are not happy with it if we accord to combat in Landmark.

Landmark Combat is still a skeleton, I do not think it is completed however you must keep in mind that it is genre agnostic and this prevents classes really from being added. I also do not think that Landmark is focused on being a major combat game as much as a fun creative place to develop things. If you want serious combat I suggest EQN when it is realized or another game that may spin off of Landmark. Who knows maybe a western where we can all pvp with six shooters.

Q11: It could be long to see the game goes live, what do you expect from this long wait?

The launch and opening should be smooth in my opinion due to the fact that landmark is the ground work and systems check that means EQN should be one of the most developed launched games really in history.

Q12: If EQN will not launch the beta in this year, do you still stick to Landmark?

Of course, Landmark is not only about EQN and it is a creative persons dream come true. Landmark is simply a bridge or a window into EQN. If we stop participating in Landmark we risk hurting EQN and that really is not a wise choice of action if you are a person or guild interested in EQN.

Q13: Finally, thank you for giving us time to chat with you, time for recruitment! Let people hear your words. (Should you tell people how to apply to your guild, or how to contact your guild)

If you are interested in joining us please go to www.vitanovaguild.org and register and then place an application. You will see an intro video on the home page. We are a solid group of friends who are always growing and wanting mature fun players. We aim to help one another and to allow you as a player to become a better player. One great thing about us is we are not bound to one game and our mumble allows us to communicate across those games and jump in and out as we need help from each other.

Interview with an EQN Guild Part 3: Brute Force Miners

Guild_3 picThis is the third in a series of guild interviews, in which the two previous ones we had was from The Dragons Guild and Pax Gaming. This time, we bring you Styke from Brute Force Miners, a fairly small but ever growing guild on EverQuest Next. Find out what they have to say about EQN’s slight deviation from the franchise.

Q1: Greetings! Could you please tell me more about your guild? How many games have you played so far, and what is the current number of your guild members?

Sure. As of right now, we play EQ Landmark. And drolling over EQ Next. As far as amount of members, we are at 35. Still small compared to a lot of guilds in EQ Landmark, but we are growing at a good pace.

Q2: EQN hasn’t been released yet, so what is the reason why you start to recruit guild member this early?

To build up a strong foundation to march right into EQ next so we, as a guild, has friends to play with and enjoy EQ Next together.

Q3: We all know that SOE has been sold off and has now become Daybreak Game Company. What do you think about the developer of EQ series being laid off? Will this affect the game?

SOE (Sony Online Entertainment) was sold off to an investment firm and now is called Daybreak Games. As for will this affect the games, I asked my guild, and all of them said it is way too soon to tell.

Q4: Many of your guild members are fans of the EQ series, do you want EQN to maintain their old style or you want it to be totally different from the franchise?

Well, most in Brute Force Miners kinda miss the old style of EQ, with the element of danger lurking around every corner, and tab targeting. But [what] we all want, not just my guild member, [but] the entire Landmark community would like to see something different, but still have the feeling of old EQ.

Q5: What is the main highlight of EQN in your opinion?

This is an easy one – the AI.

Q6: As what the Devs have said, they will be using Landmark field experiment for EQN. What do you say about this?

Well, EQ Landmark has been out for a little over a year now and it has been a roller coaster of emotions and surprises. As in EQ Landmark, now is not the same game as when players like myself participated in Alpha.

Q7: Are you interested in Landmark? (Or if any of your guild members are playing Landmark, please give us a reason.)

I asked all of my members and all of them said EQ Landmark is a game of if-you-can-think-it-you-can-build-it.

Q8: Do you want to see LM’s features appear in EQN?

This is a tricky question as there is a lot of features that we all like and some things we don’t like. I can only say this for myself and that would be yes.

Q9: Let’s talk about the content we know so far, what class will you personally pick for your first character and why?

Half elf ranged. As I like to do ranged DPS, as I stink at most of the other classes.

Q10: Do you want to see each race to have their own racial abilities? (If yes) will it destroy the balance?

Yes, we all know that every MMORPG out there has [their] own brand of racial abilities. As far as balance, I think everyone at Daybreak Games making EQ Next will try to balance most of them. Well, I hope. (laugh out loud)

Q11: Any race from the EQ franchise you want to exist in EQN?

No, they said they are bringing most to all of the races into EQ Next.

Q12: As the Dev has said that there will be no levels in this game, what do you think about that?

It’s a great idea but very tricky to get it right. As in, do they exchange levels for gear, abilities or something totally new. It will be exciting to see.

Q13: How about PvP in EQNext? Many MMO players are not happy with it if we agree to combat in Landmark.

Well, from what we in the guild has seen, PVP had a huge surge when they added it into EQ Landmark. But it has died down until they can balance it out for EQ Next.

Q14: It could be long before we see the game going live, what do you expect from this long wait?

A better EQ Landmark and better tools to test for EQ Landmark.

Q15: If EQN will not launch the Beta this year, would you still stick with Landmark?

Absolutely.

Q16: Finally, thank you for allowing us time to chat with you, but it’s now time for recruitment! Let the people know about your guild. How can they contact you? Or how can they apply if they’re interested?

Well there [are] a few ways to join our ranks in Brute Force Miners. You can drop us a line on the website: http://bruteforceminers.enjin.com/. Or [you can reach me] in game: Styke, or you can tweet to us: https://twitter.com/Styke101. And All Fear Brute Force Miners!

So there you have it from Brute Force Miners! The Devs of EQN would do well to take note that followers of the EQ series have a sense of sentimentality and a spirit for exploration too!
Please stay tuned for the next guild that we will be interviewing soon.

Interview with an EQN Guild Part 2: Pax Gaming

This is the second in a series of guild interviews, and if you can remember the previous we had was from The Dragons Guild. This time, we bring you Arywinn and her buddies from Pax Gaming, a community of like-minded gamers who has been around since 2001. The guild was founded by Sanguinous Rex and other Founders, originally for Star Wars Galaxies. The guild has branched out to other games and genres since then. Find out what they have to say about the latest and hottest issue about major changes in EQN – SOE becoming Daybreak Game Company.

Q1: Greetings! Could you please tell me more about your guild? How many games have you played so far, and what is the current number of your guild members??

Pax Gaming has been around since 2001 – that’s 14 years. We have 12 major gaming divisions and play on practically every platform of gaming: table top, PC, Console. You name it, we are in it. For numbers of our guild, I had to turn to Rawn, the head of Pax Gaming, and he came back with 1500+ members with varying degrees of activity. Of that 1500+ members, we currently have 8 new recruits for the Everquest Community and 75 members on the list waiting to play EQN.

Q2: EQN hasn’t been released yet, so what is the reason why you start to recruit guild member this early?

For us, we want to build a solid foundation in the guild for the game that we are wanting to play. We have tons of people already on our role call list for EQN. But we are always looking to expand our quality player base. These new players along with our older crew can make or break a guild in the game. The better we can be as a group going in to the game, the better we are at making it successful. Just look [at] our other gaming divisions. They all run like well oiled machines.

Q3: We all know that SOE has been sold off and has now become Daybreak Game Company. What do you think about the developer of EQ series being laid off? Will this affect the game?

We were all upset to see all those good folks go. Even tho[ugh] we did not have personal real relationships with those folks. We all feel a connection to them and wish them nothing but the best. We have concerns about the future of the game as well, particularly if they’ll be able or even willing to deliver on all the four “Holy Grails” showcased at SOE Live 2013. Until Daybreak speaks out on its plan, the who, what, when, or where. Paxgaming and Pax Novus will do its best to carry our loved Devs in our hearts and keep building [their] legacy. So at the moment, for us, its business as usual.

Q4: Many of your guild members are fans of the EQ series, do you want EQN to maintain their old style or you want it to be totally different from the franchise?

We think there should be a mix of the 2 Eqs. 1 and 2 laid some great footings for the game but EQN has the potential to really make it shine. EQN could be potentially be the game that gives other MMO’s a run for its money.

Q5: What is the main highlight of EQN in your opinion?

Wow! I don’t think we can nail down just one but here is what we are looking forward to. Full Destructibility, Permanent Change, Class Revolution and Life of Consequences

Q6: As what the Devs have said, they will be using Landmark field experiment for EQN. What do you say about this?

This is a great idea not only for the Devs but for the players [as well]. The players can test the systems and give [their] feed back and the Devs [can] make changes based on the feed back and the Devs actually listen. The real advantage is, the folks in Landmark who are going to play EQN, they can take what they have learned in Landmark and apply it in EQN. They, in a word, will have the advantage in game.

Q7: Are you interested in Landmark? (Or if any of your guild members are playing Landmark, please give us a reason.)

I am interested and [I am] currently playing. We just recently finished a Community Hosted Build. We have lots of members who are interested and are playing. We had folks who have been there from day one. It’s the biggest sand box in the world and we can build it any way we want to.

Q8: Do you want to see LM’s features appear in EQN?

Yes, we do want to see some of the features in EQN but not all of them. Each game needs to be unique in its own way.

Q9: Let’s talk about the content we know so far, what class will you personally pick for your first character and why?

I will pick some ranged dps/ healers class and it will always be an elf. Its the class I love. I spent 7 years in WOW playing one. Now that’s dedication. Now we have lots of folks who are dwarfs that play all classes so they better have plenty of beer or the natives will be restless.

Q10: Do you want to see each race to have their own racial abilities? (If yes) will it destroy the balance?

Darganon has elected to answer this question “Personally, I like making racial abilities social traits, similar to what SWTOR did. Adds a unique touch to each race without affecting balance of pve/pvp skills.”

Q11: Any race from the EQ franchise you want to exist in EQN?

Spikes would say Iksar. Kralle would say Ratonga. I have folks in Teamspeak yelling “Dwarfs rule!” As long as there are [Elves], I am happy

Q12: As the Dev has said that there will be no levels in this game, what do you think about that?

Me personally, I think that it’s great [that] too many games focus on that end level. Got to get to that level, got to get to that gear. No levels means you are not racing to an end. You can actually sit and enjoy the content that the Devs have put together.

Q13: How about PvP in EQNext? Many MMO players are not happy with it if we agree to combat in Landmark.

Dave has said that, from the start, what we have in Landmark now is just the bare bones concept. If we have learned anything about Landmark in any of its game play, it’s things change. The Devs have been very willing to listen to [our] feedback and they are taking it to heart. Now the combat is [very] different than, let’s say, WoW or SWTOR. But it is unique. It could potentially, with the right tweeks, be very effective.

Q14: It could be long before we see the game going live, what do you expect from this long wait?

I suspect Landmark to go live here in a few months, personally. Others would debate that. But given that the Devs have moved to work on EQN, I think I am pretty safe in my answer as far as Alpha for EQN I say, first of the year.

Q15: If EQN will not launch the Beta this year, would you still stick with Landmark?

Yes, it is my plan to stick to Landmark. I have loved this game from the first day I logged in and I am sure we will have a player base of Paxgaming members who will keep with it.

Q16: Finally, thank you for allowing us time to chat with you, but it’s now time for recruitment! Let the people know about your guild. How can they contact you? Or how can they apply if they’re interested?

It’s been a pleasure taking the time to chat. The easiest way is to talk to any one at www.paxgaming.com. We have a shoutbox that you can jump right in and chat with us at any time. We have a section in the forums for RECRUITMENT AND NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION [which] tells you how to apply and how to join. Folks can find me (Arywinn) in Landmark at Adventure Kettle at the guild complex Pax Novus or just add me as friends and talk to me. Any guild member in game is happy to accommodate anyone’s questions as well.

So there you have it from Pax Gaming! It is good to know that, despite unexpected changes in the MMO world, there are still people who value loyalty and dedication. We believe the Devs at what was previously known as SOE will be proud of Pax Gaming upholding their legacy.

Please stay tuned for the next guild that we will be interviewing soon.

Interview with an EQN Guild: The Dragons Guild

We got in touch with a number of guilds and asked them about their opinions on Everquest Next and Landmark. Here is the first in this series of interviews. Oddyseous from the Dragons guild tells us why he prefers the new addition to the EQ series to be more similar to the first EQ.

Q1: Greetings! Could you please tell me more about your guild? How many games have you played so far, and what is the current number of your guild members?

My guild has been around since Everquest 1 first came out in 1998, however I basically re-make it every time I start a new game rarely with previous members following.

Q2: EQN hasn’t been released yet, so what is the reason why you start to recruit guild member this early?

A strong start.

Q3: Many of your guild members are fans of the EQ series, do you want EQN to maintain their old style or you want it to be totally different from the franchise?

I would prefer a game closer to EQ1, but with an updated engine and some new features such as the housing and such that they are going with Landmark.

everquest1

Q4: What is the main highlight of EQN in your opinion?

Not sure yet, it’s new, and a new chance to make a really good EQ like the first, not a mess like EQ2.

Q5: As SOE has said, they will be using Landmark field experiment for EQN. What do you say about this?

I like the approach of keeping players involved, but I’m worried that in many cases, players don’t know what they really want some times. I hope it works out well for them and all of us to be able to enjoy an EQ game possibly like EQ1 in its prime.

Q6: Are you interested in Landmark? (Or if any of your guild members are playing Landmark, please give us a reason.)

I play landmark myself although I admit I have not been on it in a while.

Q7: Do you want to see LM’s features appear in EQN?

Yes.

Q8: Let’s talk about the content we know so far, what class will you personally pick for your first character and why?

Not sure yet, I like to feel them out on each new game before I decide on one to stay as a main.

Q9: As the Dev has mentioned in SOE Live, class revolution will give freedom to players. How, do you think, could it have a big impact to the MMO scene?

Not sure yet.

Q10: Do you want to see each race to have their own racial abilities? (If yes) will it destroy the balance?

Yes, and no to the balance.

Q11: Any race from the EQ franchise you want to exist in EQN?

Trolls and Ogres =)

an ogre from eqnext

Q12: As the Dev has said that there will be no levels in this game, what do you think about that?

I’m conflicted, it seems like whenever a game tries to do something different they tend to mess it up since its new territory for them. They did well with their H1Z1 game and still are, so hopefully they will do well with EQN.

Q13: How about PvP in EQNext?

Many MMO players are not happy with it, if we accord to combat in Landmark.
I will only play on a PvP server.

Q14: It could be long before we see the game going live, what do you expect from this long wait?

Something worth waiting for.

Q15: What do you want to see about EQN in SOE Live 2015?

I never bother with those, to be honest.

Q16: Finally, thank you for allowing us time to chat with you, but it’s now time for recruitment! Let the people know about your guild. How can they contact you? Or how can they apply if they’re interested?

My name in game is Oddyseous, you can contact me by email rick{at}simscomputerrepair{dot}com. My guild is Dragons, and I will be pushing to get it on EQN should the game be everything or even half what we are hoping for.

So there you have it from the Dragons Guild. Let’s just stay that, for Odysseous, nothing beats the original – the first one in the franchise. And with him, we are also hoping that EQNext turns out to be a great MMO just as most are expecting.

Please stay tuned for the next guild that we will be interviewing soon.

When should EQ Next Release?

Okay, listen up all you gamers out there. For any of you who are a fan of the EQ series of games you just might have to enjoy the ones that you go now.

Now for all of those who are familiar with the games already you will know that there is two out there. One of them being EQ and the second being EQ11. And the rumor is that there is going to be a further installment that will blow away the first two. The rumor is that this next installment will completely abolish the first two in every way possible. Now the question remains when will this new installment be released. I mean there is so much hype about it now and it’s only going to cause more pandemonium with talk of another installment being worked on.

635x360everquestnextatsoe07302013-610x339

And according to actual gaming sources the wait may not be that to far off. Apparently part of the next installment has already been released. And it was released no August 2, 2013. And that is exciting news for all of you gamers out there. Now the next installment is much better than the first two. And originally it wasn’t set to be unleashed until may 2015, 2014 at the very earliest. But due to overwhelming demand for the game they scrambled quickly and released at least part of the newest version. And according to sources out there this one is said to be taking over.

Now if this late breaking news excites you may be foaming at the mouth when the next one will be out. Well the next one will not be out for quite some time. Because of the early release of this installment they have to really take some time to hone the next one.

EverQuest Next to be the Biggest Sandbox MMO Ever?

The next installment in the EverQuest franchise, accurately titled EverQuest Next, is reportedly the biggest sandbox MMO ever made. Attempting to clean the disappointing EverQuest II smudge from their record, which had nothing but linear gameplay, Sony Online Entertainment is making an epic open-ended world where you can choose to do what ever you want. That’s right, you are no longer required to grind your levels in the same boring old sewers that everyone else is fighting for creeps in. In fact, there aren’t even levels. You will be able to choose from 40 different classes. You will have the option to customize your character anyway you like with the variety of skills that you can mix and mash up.

EverQuest Next Image

EverQuest Next Image

EverQuest Next is offering gamer’s destruction on a large scale. The engine is not just massive, but its world is ever changing due to buildings and landscapes that are able to be destroyed. So, if you want to take that big, beautiful rolling plain with livestock grazing in it into a crater and a mushroom cloud, you will have the option! If destruction isn’t your thing, you can also use a program called EverQuest Landmark which will allow you to create objects and buildings within the game the same way the developers did the first time around.

The game is also boasting some heightened NPC intelligence, which I’m sure we have all seen hyped in games in the past and never quite meets expectations. We can only hope that the developers of EverQuest Next have taken that into consideration and have made what little grind there may be in this game a little more interesting than in its predecessors.

The developers at SOE are striving to make a game that changed the world the same way the first EverQuest did.
